Work diary - Personal shoot 9

Evaluation
This shoot was based around fashion and scenery, i wanted to capture images to do with fashion but outside because i wanted to show commercial fashion photography outside rather than in the studio because this is what some company s do. in order to achieve these photos i went to Chelsea park and bridge in which i captured wide variety of photos to portray commercial photography. overall i thought the shoot went well because originally i wasn't planning to capture cars in my photos but when i got there i saw that this was effective and added to the scenery making the photo look more natural. whilst taking my photos i found that the park was surrounded by lots of leaves which i chose to include in my photos hence my first image which i think is effective due to the leaves and the lamposet. i chose to put 2 photos together for this image as i though it looks like something you would see in a catalogue, also i was trying to show the coat from different angles, so i thought this looked ffective. i also put them in black and white as i thought this would be different. i really like my second photo because of the background, in the original photo the car was already blurred, so i decided to blur he rest of the background apart form what she was sitting on as i thought this looked good. i also choose to put some of the background in black and white as it i thought this made the model and the coat stand out more.
what i will do next time
next time if i do a shoot like this i will make sure that i have set my camera up properly as i had a bit of trouble with the settings and the lighting, however i managed to take a lot of photos still which turned out well but originally i wasn't sure on them. i used photoshop to do a lot of the edits which helped the photos.

Image bank - Minimum Depth Of Field

Image bank for minimum depth of field
All of these images represent minimum depth of field as they show the depth of field. Minimum depth of field is a technique which involves you zooming right into the product while also standing close in order to get a blurred background. One of my favourite images within these is the first one, I like this image a lot because I like how one hand is blurred but the other one is clear, this makes it look like their is a barrier between the two hands. i think this image shows minimum depth of field well because the clear part of the photo is closer to the audience which makes it look more effective.

Image Bank - Slow Sync

Image Bank For Slow sync
All of the images above represent slow sync photography which is similar to blur photography, except the difference is that one part of the image stays in focus. Slow Synch is better done in the studio as you can adjust the lighting  and backgrounds this way and the image will also come out better this way. One of my favourite images within these is the one with the one of the cards with the colours within the middle, i like this image a lot because i like the how the colours look like a rainbow and they are just in the middle of the action, i think this looks effective as the rest of the image is in black and white and it therefore looks like the colour is coming off of the card. this would be interesting to see how this worked and it is something i would like to try myself. another image which i liked a lot was the one of the roses, i like this because i like how the flowers are in focus but it looks like their is mist going across them as something has been blurred across them both. therefore i think it looks really effective as it could also represent the sent coming from the flowers. overall i thought slow sync was good, however i if i could do the shoot again i would look back at these photos for inspiration as i only used a person in my shoots as i think objects would be good to use as its different.

Work Diary - Personal Shoot 8

Evaluation
This shoot was based around dogs for commercial photography, i tried to do a comparison between abandoned dogs and dogs when re homed. therefore i thought i produced two pictures which show this well as my first image shows the dog abandoned in the streets of london, i made the picture black and white and purposely used a picture of the dog looking down and sad as this makes her look more vulnerable. i then produced an image of the dog in a brighter scene looking happy, i think the colours and the setting are important in photos like this as it wouldn't have worked as well if i had used the dog looking sad in the same place as i took the happy photos because this would look too forced.overall i thought the shoot went well as i got a range of photos to portray the dog looking happy and sad which was different to my original idea but i thought it looked better this way.
what i would do next time
Next time in order to improve my shoot, i would have used different locations so i could put a range of photos together to do a better comparison. this is something i hope to do in future as i think this will look good and it will count as using one of my techniques being multiple imagery.

Work diary - Slow Sync

Evaluation
I thought this shoot went well as i wasn't to sure how to achieve slow sync and was a bit unsure about the whole thing as i know it was similar to the technique blurring. however, overall i thought the shoot went well as i achieved a ranged of photos which showed slow sync well as i wasn't sure what it was. i like the top image because it shows my model performing an action and i like the blurring affect of this. i also think the bottom image is good because it shows her head in two different places and it looks like my model is turing around.
What i would do next time
if i was to do this shoot again i would like to use different models and also different colour backgrounds as i would like to see the different effects of this and then i would be able to see which colour background shows the technique the best.

Technique Page - Slow sync

Technique:
set the exposure to the continuous light source
normal flash setting
get your model to move

Work Diary - Personal Shoot 7

Evaluation
This shoot was based around shoes for advertising. i thought it went well as i wanted put the shoes on top of leaves to create a winter effect so it could be winter collections of shoes. i also like how i used two complete different types of shoes as this showed different collections. my favourite photo is of the new balance trainers s i think they look well in the leaves as the leaves contrast the colour of the shoes. i thought i this shoot was good because i managed to achieve pictures which represented adverstising and commercial photography. initially i thought this shoot wouldn't go very well as i hadn't done much planning, however it did in fact go well as i always get my best ideas when out there looking for things to do.
what i will do next time
next time i go to shoot shoes i will do this in the studio as it will enable me to be able to adjust the lighting and get photos on a plain background which will look good.

Work diary - Personal shoot 6

Evaluation
For this shoot i wanted to focus on fashion photography and accessories, i also wanted to pick a good location for this as i think this adds to the effect of the photo and can make it look better, and i thought it did. i thought i picked a good location as i could use some of the things i saw for props, for example in the photo above i thought my model looked effective in this box and it looked like she was trapped in a confined space wand i thought it made her look vulnerable. i also liked the photo above as i thought it showed my models outfit well and i thought it looked like the sort of picture you would see in a magazine. i though this shoot went well as i got a range of photos with my model doing different poses and wearing different outfits which i thought looked good and represented my personal topic of commercial photography well. i also liked the fact that i had a good model as i think this helps as you want a model willing to do what you ask them and to be quite photogenic. i think this has a big influence on how the photos turn out.
What i will do next time
Next time i do a shoot like this i would like to use more than one model as i thin this could work quite well together, also i would like to do a high fashion shoot and dress my model up a lot and give her different looks which i think would work well.

Work Diary - Personal shoot 5

Evaluation
For this shoot i went to London in order to take photos of buildings and whatever else i could find which would fit in with my product. My outcome was very good and the two photos above are two i achieved from the shoot which i liked a lot.  i went to various places in London in order to get a range of photos, the two photos above are photos of the tower bridge and St. Paul's cathedral, other photos i got were of the London Eye, and buildings in china town which i thought were all effective still. i got a range of photos in the day and the night time which meant i had some strong photo choices to choose from. i was very happy with all the images as i took quite a few, one of my favourite images is the one of St Paul's cathedral, i like this photo a lot due to the lighting in the photo, i like how everything is dark and then the cathedral is bright with light shining on one side and dark on the other. i also like the image of tower bridge because i think its effective how the water is reflecting of the bridge, i have edited the photo to a purple colour which i also think makes the image look more effective as well as more bold.
What i will do next time
next time i got to London to take photos i will make sure i take spare batteries with me as my camera ran out of battery which was disappointing as i had a few more things in mind to photograph which i couldn't, however, i have saved tis for a another shoot.

Work Diary- Personal Shoot 4

Evaluation
This shoot for commercial photography was based around my car as it was an advertising shoot. i thought this shoot went well as i used two locations for this shoot, however the best location was the roof top of a car park as this enabled me to get shots which were higher up and had a clearer background. the focus of my shoot was to try and make it look like my car was moving, therefore my favourite image of the shoot is the one above. to achieve this effect i used photoshop to add lines to make it look like the car was moving and i then added in the logo of the car. it thought this picture was effective and looked like a real advertisement, i also thought i achieved my target which was to try and make m car look like it was moving. i also like how i have made the background quite dark as this makes the car stand out more as its white, i also think the angle the car has been taken on makes the image look better. overall i thought this shoot went well as i got a range of shots which shows the car at different angles, i also managed to get videos of the car which i will later out together to make an advertisement.
What i will do next time
Next time i do this shoot i aim to shoot a different kind of car in a different location. This is so i can see how different cars look when being photographed, i also think this will be challenging but worthwile. locations i would like to use will be places quite quiet, for example fields and quite places.

How i will make my work better

in order to make my work better i shall undertake a number of things in order to represent my personal project in a better and effective way. i shall plan a number of locations in order to shoot my pictures, for example places i plan to go notting hill, sloan square and various other places in London as well as using the studio.

this is one photo which is similar to one i have shot myself, i like using locations such as London as they have pretty sights and there are many things to photograph - especially at night time.

this is another photo which is similar to one i have already taken, i think this one has a better location though because it looks more natural, however, locations like this interest me a lot as i think locations can determine a good photo from a bad photo.

other shoots i plan to do are a shoot of animals, in specific dogs and horses as i would like to portray commercial side of animals. i would also like to do a makeup shoot and a fashion shoot as these link in in with my ideas. also i would like to do a landscape shoot as i find theses quite interesting.

careful planning is key when wanting a successful shoot, therefore i shall make sure i have planned my shoot out in order to get a range of successful photos to add to my portfolio.

Best Work So Far YH

This powerpoint represents my best work so far which i think is fairly good. These photos have all been taken from my personal shoots over time in which they represent commercial photography. I think these photos represent commercial photography well as they are all unique and represent different aspects of commercial photography.  furthermore i have more shoots to come to expand my project ideas and develop them into high quality photos.

i particularly like the image of the bus in london by big ben as it shows a technique but it also looks effective and represents commercial photography well. i liked my photos from this shoot a lot and it has taught me that organisation is key as a good photo can be determined not just by the quality but also the surroundings and lighting etc. overall i am happy to continue with my project as i have thoroughly enjoyed it so far.

Technique Page - Minimum depth of field

Technique

  • Firstly you can do this technique either in the studio or on location.
  • you need to pick a subject, then stand far away from your subject and zoom right into them to take the picture.
  • Then your  background will be blurred.

Work Diary- Minimum depth of field

Evaluation
This shoot was done during my transition week in which I went outside to take photos, I thought the shoot went well because my photos portrayed minimum depth of field and I also thought the location I chose was good for this technique. the image above represents minimum depth of field which is when you set the aperture high and you zoom right into your subject from a far distance. this then makes the background blurry while making your subject completely stay in focus which then makes your subject stand out more. I like this technique because it enables you to make things stand out and this could link into my personal topic of commercial photography.
How I can use this technique
This technique can be used within my personal project because the idea of my project is to advertise things, therefore I could use this within my portraiture photography as it will be making my subject stand out which is what I want to achieve.

this lesson i am going to complete my progress check

Work Diary - personal shoot 3

Evaluation
This shoot was based around my idea of fashion and accessory for commercial photography, I thought this shots went well because I achieved photos which related to my topic and I thought I done a good job. My main focus for this shoot was to advertise my model Michael Kors watch and her outfit also, the outcome was good and above are my two favourite images from the shoot. the top photo is showing her watch in which I made the background darker in order to make the watch stand out more which I thought went well. Another favourite image of mine is the one below that where I have mixed three images together, I did this in order to sell my products as the images all linked together so I chose to put them all together, I thought this went better than having three separate photos as it also looks more interesting.
What I will do next time
Next time I do fashion and accessory photography I would like to use a location shoot, this would be different as I haven't yet done this and I would like to see the outcome. for this type of shoot I would go somewhere like London, for example Brick Lane, as I know there are some interesting backgrounds I could use here ad I already know a few spots.

Work Diary - Personal Shoot 2

Evaluation
This shoot was based around an experimental shoot for my personal project of commercial photography, in order to experiment i went into to town and caught photos of various things such as buildings and various things around the town. I thought the shoot went well as it enabled me to get some rough ideas of what I would like tot shoot and what I wouldn't like to shoot. overall I think I got some good shots of the building's and my favourite one is the image I have displayed above. I mirrored the image in order to get an effect which looks more interesting and I also thought this linked into commercial photography well as I could be advertising the buildings. I also like the image of the water because I think the angle is what makes the photo look best because at this angle you can see the ripples in the water which shows great detail.
What I will do next time
Now I have got some ideas on commercial photography next time I would like to shoot building in more depth. by this I mean I would like to go to places like London where there are a range of building and shoot them in more depth and different angles.

Techniques- Video

  • set the camera to video
  • press the button when ready to start then press it to stop

Image Bank- Sequencing

All of these photos represent the technique sequencing. this is when you take one picture after another of someone performing a movement and then you out them together to make a sequence. this technique works best when you keep the camera in the same place because it shows the sequence better. I like how all the photos are different in the way they have all got the camera at a different angle when photographing the sequence. I like the image at the top because it shows a big sequence performing a range of different shot types, I also like the background is this photo because it makes the action stand out more. another image I like is the one directly above. I think this sequence has worked well because the camera has been kept in the same place at each movement, i also like how the sequence has been put into one photo.

Work Diary - Personal shoot no 1

Evaluation
This was my first personal shoot which i done and i thought it went quite well. For this shoot i went to London in order to get some nice location for my photos which i based around a fashion shoot even though i was just experimenting. overall i thought it went well because i got a range of photos at different locations which. The image above is my favourite image because i think it links directly with my commercial fashion shoot and i think the photo overall lookd good. i really like the lighting in the photo because its shining on the right places of her body, i also like the location of this photo as she's sitting on a rock which makes the image overall look more elegant.

what i would do next time
Next tim if i was to do this shoot again i would like to use a different location and maybe a range of models so i have a variety of photos.

Monday 7 October 2013

Technique Page - Sequencing

  • plan out a sequence which involves your model moving.
  • standing in the same spot take one image after another of your model moving or performing a move.
  • put them next to each other in photo shop so its shows a sequence of photos of a move.

Work Diary - Fine Art

Evaluation
Today i set out to shoot fine art, this technique involves taking pictures with the purpose of them being pretty so they could be used for an advertisement for example, or the technique involves taking pictures which will challenge the viewer. These are two photos which i achieved from todays shoot, i took the image of the model smoking with the purpose to portray child hood which would challenge the viewers views. i then put it in back and white and highlighted the fact she is smoking by keeping the cigarette in colour so i could make it clear to my viewers what i was trying to achieve. i like the photo of the flowers because this represents fine art in a pretty way.

How i could use this
i could use this technique within my personal project because my topic revolves around commercial photography so therefore i could use it show my commercial photography for advertising for example.

Image Bank - Fine Art

Fine Art Photography
Fine art photography is when the images are taken with the purpose to be pretty like fine art, or to challenge the viewers. things like landscapes and horses and flowers are pretty things, challenging things could be thing like expressing what you think a child hood is like for example you could have little girls dressing up in high heels or smoking as this would challenge the viewer and they would have to think of their own perception of childhood. I like the picture of the horse because i think it represents fine art well because the the close up of the horse makes the detail stand out and i like the fact that you can see a reflection in its eye. I also like the image f the cloud/tree because it looks like a tree but in fact a cloud id on top of the tree trunk which makes it stand out so therefore its challenging the viewers.
